truth and grace

so we've been talking about truth and grace in church, and how you have to have both to get the full picture of the gospel. we're in the book of acts, talking about simon the sorcerer and saul (acts 8). saul was consumed with truth and would do anything to preserve it, including kill followers of Jesus. simon loved the grace part but didn't understand the truth, and tried to buy his way into Heaven. so which one am i? well, after thinking about it i decided i definitely err on the side of saul, where truth tends to be my master. whether that means i think i'm better than someone else because of a certain way i do things, or how i was raised, or the house i live in. this is because i guess....i've never been someone who used to binge drink, or beat my wife, or murder. that's the humbling thing about truth and grace, though. the truth is, i am no different or less capable of doing those terrible things than the people that do them. it's just Jesus. that's the only difference. he extended grace to me and i accepted it, while some haven't. none of me is anything i've done. and so why should i not extend that same grace to others. to get a true picture of Jesus you have to have both. you have to extend grace and truth to everyone you come in contact with. are you saul or simon?
